I’ve always been a big believer in buying myself flowers. I just love the way a fresh bouquet brightens up a room. In college, my best friend and I would walk into Brookline to hit up Trader Joe’s, and I would splurge on a $5 bouquet of flowers for myself. I would then declare myself “the best boyfriend ever” and put them in the window of my Boston dorm room.
I’m a nerd, I know, but stick with me.
You see, having flowers around you can have many positive effects, and you don’t need anyone to bring them to you to feel the joy they provide.
- Nature has been scientifically proven to provide happiness.
It’s science! Studies have found that people who spend more time in nature are happier and more relaxed. Nature makes no demands of you. Sticking a reminder that nature exists inside your home or office makes for a happier space.
- You deserve something pretty.
And guess what? There’s nothing in the books that say you need to wait for someone else to bring it to you.
- You get to pick it yourself.
Feeling a bright bouquet of Gerbera daisies? Or maybe a softer, more pastel peony? Whatever you’re into at that moment, you get it, and damn it feels good to have that choice.
- The Law of Attraction.
If you’re single, buying yourself flowers says to the Universe “I want these. These make me happy” and it will attract like-minded people to you. If you’re in a relationship, let your partner see the joy fresh flowers bring you. Maybe they’ll take a hint! 😉
Remember my story earlier about how I’d buy myself flowers? It was a total splurge for me at the time, because once upon a time I was a broke college kid, but whatever. The point is, I did it for myself, and it sent a pretty powerful message to the Universe… I’m now married to a super romantic man who brings me flowers once every couple weeks, if not every single week. It’s not unusual for us to have 2-3 bouquets sitting around our house. It’s a dream come true for me, but still, I buy myself flowers sometimes too!
But mainly, you should buy yourself flowers because you deserve it. And again, you don’t need to wait for someone else to bring them to you- you can (and should!) light up your own life as much as you possibly can.
Until next time, namasté. ❤
