Holistic Ways to Heal a Cold

Cold and flu season is upon us, folks! It seems like everyone gets sick at least once during the winter months. There is, however, hope! And it doesn’t have to come in the form of an over the counter drug.

I’m here to share some of my favorite holistic cold remedies…

  • First of all, rest!
If your body is asking you to slow down, you really need to make every effort to do it. I know how tough this is, believe me, but if you want to recover quickly, this is the most important step!
  • Drink peppermint tea.
The mint will clear up your stuffy nose.
  • Get lots of vitamin-C.
Vitamin-C is essential in boosting your immune system. Get some by drinking orange juice, eating citrus fruit, kiwi, guava, or peppers.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Drink hot lemon water with raw, local honey.
  • Probiotics.
Get your body systems moving by consuming yogurt (make sure it’s low in sugar, as sugar makes your immune system weak) or cheese.
  • Blow your nose and cough it up.
    Get that yucky stuff OUT.
  • Take a steamy shower and breathe deep.
  • Essential oils.
My friend sells an amazing essential oil blend meant for aleiviating the symptoms of the common cold and congestion and to increase your immune system. I wear it basically the entire cold season to ward off sickness- you can get your own at Luna’s Potions on Etsy.

These are all ways I’ve personally used to treat a common cold, and they’ve all worked for me! If they haven’t completely cured my colds, they’ve at least made them a lot more bearable. As I get and recover from colds, I hope to add to this list (though hopefully I won’t be adding very frequently).

Please note: I am not a doctor. If you are feeling sick, please see a doctor for professional care.

What do you do to get yourself through cold season?

Until next time, namasté. ❤
